Voices of Hope: Double Rainbow

Teissa McDill

This part of the Voices of Hope series is written by Teissa McDill. I have been so honored to be a part of their journey.

As a teenager, I was told by a doctor that I would not be able to have children. When my husband and I first got together in September of 2013, we agreed that we both wanted children. So, we never did anything to prevent pregnancy.

In March of 2014 we found out we were pregnant for the first time! We were more than ecstatic. Eleven weeks later, we tragically lost what we had called our "miracle baby". We were both devastated. I went into a deep depression. My husband was my strength through the hardest time of our lives. He was my rock, never giving up hope, even when I did.

In June of 2015, we found out we were pregnant again. Unfortunately, eight days later, we lost our second child. I began to accept that I would not be able to carry our children.

August of 2015, we once again found out that we were expecting another baby. The day after we got our positive result, we miscarried again. I was devastated once again but my husband still remained just as encouraging as before. He always had faith.

We began watching my cycle, increasing vitamins, and everything else we could to give it just one more shot. Months passed and our positive test never came. At this point we started to discuss our other options and contemplating the best one for us. A year had finally passed and in September of 2016, unexpectedly, we finally got our positive!

May 11th 2017 will be a day we forever cherish. After a long 29 hours in labor and a C-section, I gave birth to a happy, healthy baby boy. Jaxtyn Thomas is our Rainbow Baby. We are so thankful to get to be a part of his life.

Over this past year, there have been many sleepless nights. After losing the other babies, I would just lay there and watch Jax breathe, terrified something would happen if I didn't. Being a mom is the most incredible blessing I have ever asked for, though not always the easiest. Watching this precious little boy grow and learn is the wildest thing! It amazes me how quickly he can figure things out, like when he learns a new sign, and most days I find myself in awe of him. I cannot imagine my life without him. He brings me and our families so much joy and happiness.

Two microscopic parts of me and my husband came together and turned into Jaxton. I am excited to see his life unfold into what he becomes.

When Jax was 8 months old, we were blessed and greatly surprised to find out that we are pregnant with baby number 5, our second Rainbow Baby. September of 2018, Jax will be getting a little sister. We are beyond blessed.
